Notes and attachments

Every task has room for the detail behind it. Use the Description for what the task is about, and Notes for running updates as you go. Files and screenshots go in Attachments.

Notes and Attachments sit together in the Notes & Attachments section of the task window. Click its name to open it.

Format your text

The Description and Notes both have a formatting bar. You can use:

  • Bold and italic
  • A heading
  • Bullet lists, numbered lists and task lists with tick boxes
  • Quotes
  • Code, for things like ticket numbers or settings you want to copy exactly
  • Links

Some formatting also works as you type. Start a line with a dash and a space for a bullet list, or 1. and a space for a numbered list. Cmd+B and Cmd+I (Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I on Windows) work for bold and italic.

If you paste text that already has formatting, such as a list from an email, it keeps its formatting.

For example, Sam's notes on Update RAID log before steering might have a short task list of the risks still to check, and a link to the RAID log itself.

Links

Select some text and click the link button, or paste a web address and it turns into a link. Links open in a new tab. Only web and email links are allowed.

Paste a screenshot

Copy a screenshot, click into the Description or Notes and paste it (Cmd+V, or Ctrl+V on Windows). Trackli adds it to the task's attachments and shows Image attached. The image isn't shown inside the text itself.

Attach files

  1. Open Notes & Attachments.
  2. Drag files onto the Attachments area, or click Choose Files. On a phone you can also tap Take Photo.
  3. Save the task. Files upload when you save.

You can attach images, PDFs, Word documents and Excel spreadsheets, up to 10MB each. If a file is too big or a type Trackli doesn't accept, you'll see a message saying which one and why.

Once a file is saved, you can view it, download it, or delete it with the bin icon.

Tips

  • Board cards and search show your description as plain text, without the formatting.
  • When a task is linked to Jira or another tool, the formatting is taken out before the text is sent there, so it reads cleanly on the other side.
  • For conversations about the task, use the comments in the Activity section rather than notes.
