Blocked tasks and Move to tomorrow

Two quick actions for the days when things don't go to plan. Mark blocked is for tasks you can't move until someone else does something. Move to tomorrow is for tasks you're not going to get to today.

Mark a task blocked

A card marked blocked, waiting on the KAN-3 fix

Sam can't finish Confirm vendor DPA with Corvel until Corvel's legal team comes back, so Sam marks it blocked.

  1. Find the task. Then either:
    • On the Board or in My Day, hover over it and click the lock icon (Mark blocked).
    • Open the task and click Mark blocked next to the status.
    • On a phone, tap Blocked on the task in My Day, or open the task and tap Mark blocked.
  2. In Waiting on, say what you're waiting for (ex: Corvel legal).
  3. Under Bring it back on, choose Tomorrow, In 2 days, Next Monday or pick a date. You can leave it empty if you don't know.
  4. If you want to move the task's dates as well, click Change dates.
  5. Click Mark blocked.

The card now shows Waiting on Corvel legal · back 5 Nov in orange. The task keeps its status, so it stays in the same column.

When it comes back

On the date you chose, Trackli brings the task back for you:

  • The block is lifted and the card shows Back from blocked: waiting on Corvel legal with an open padlock icon, so you remember to pick it up.
  • You get a notification saying the task is back. If you get the daily digest, it lists these tasks under Unblocked.

The marker clears as soon as you open or edit the task.

Change or remove a block

Click the lock icon again (it now says Edit block), or Mark blocked in the task window. Change the details and click Update, or click Unblock now to remove the block straight away.

Hide blocked tasks

On the Board on a computer, click Hide blocked in the bar above the columns to hide everything you're waiting on. The count shows how many are hidden. Tasks that have just come back stay visible.

Tasks blocked in Jira

If a task comes from Jira and its Jira status is a blocked one, the card shows Blocked in Jira: and the status. You can't change that block in Trackli. Change the status in Jira and it updates here.

Move to tomorrow

Hover over a task on the Board or in My Day and click Move to tomorrow. On a phone, tap Tomorrow on the task in My Day.

Trackli moves whatever is keeping the task on today's list:

  • If it's due today or overdue, it's now due tomorrow.
  • If it starts today or earlier, it now starts tomorrow.
  • If you added it to My Day by hand, it's in tomorrow's My Day instead.

Anything else stays as it was. If the new start date would land after the due date, the due date moves to tomorrow too. If the task has nothing to move (ex: it's due next week and you haven't added it to My Day), the button doesn't show, or is greyed out on a phone.

Made a mistake? Click Undo on the message that appears.

Tips

  • Tasks waiting on another task show as blocked too. See Dependencies.
  • Done tasks can't be marked blocked or moved to tomorrow.
